About 150 SuperHeroes from toddlers to retirees challenged their inner superhero and helped families impacted by intimate partner violence.  Participants put themselves to the test with a 1K, 5K, or CrossFit Challenge.  Dressed in their favorite masks, capes, and t-shirts they enjoyed energetic dance music, fun face painting, yummy cotton candy, and delicious Jersey Mikes.  All in an effort to ZAP domestic violence!  Fox 5 anchor Phil Blauer and San Diego County Chief Deputy DA Summer Stephan were among the celebrities who brought their superpowers to the SuperHero Challenge.

“I want to make sure families understand the signs of domestic violence so they can help the people in their lives before it turns deadly, “ says Ginny Scharbarth, Kathy’s mother and co-founder of Kathy’s Legacy Foundation.  According to SANDAG 16,719 domestic violence incidents were reported in San Diego County in 2016. Twelve of those incidents turned deadly at the hands of the current or former partner of the victim.
